Workshop Applications

  • Workshop applications are accepted for artists who want to teach a class or workshop. More details to come as we move into the space.

    • Eligibility: Open to all visual artists age 19 and older.

    • Application Fee: $25

      All application fees are to be waived until further notice

  • Spaces are $20 per hour or $100 per day

    If you book 2 or more days of teaching you will get the lecture room for free

  • Due to the open-air nature of the studios, media that produces toxic fumes or artwork that requires nonstop continuous loud noise are not permitted. Artists using media of a toxic or hazardous nature shall follow all applicable laws and regulations. Consult the Operating Rules and Procedures for more information.

    Due to the public nature of the MAC, there are expectations for artists on engaging with the public and working within a community of artists. Accepted applicants shall follow rules of the Lease and Operating Rules and Procedures found here. These rules and procedures are subject to change with notice.

    • Engage the public, staff, and other artists, with courtesy and respect.

    • Maintain minimum noise only consistent with the working process.

    • Work with the Art Center regarding any hazardous activities or material.

    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

    • No Illegal drugs on premises.

    • No misuse of alcohol on premises.

Studio Applications

  • Studio applications are accepted for artists who want a studio or groups of up to four (4) artists that wish to share a studio. Each application is reviewed as a single applicant, be it an individual application or a group application.

    The Montgomery Art Center is looking for artisans that are creating original work. The MAC juries for studios; therefore, if applying as a group, a studio is granted to the group application, not to an individual artist within a group.

    • Eligibility: Open to all visual artists age 19 and older.

    • Application Fee: $25

    • Application deadline: Open until all four studios are filled.

  • Each studio is about 19’ x 19’ or 360 square feet. See floor plan for more details. Each room is $500 per month. 4-6 artists may fit in each space depending on working space required. You may apply as an individual or as a group.

  • Accepted applicants shall receive a 6 month studio lease. This cost includes access to building utilities, Art Center marketing, professional-development opportunities, common area/bathroom custodial, Art Center programming, and other day-to-day operations. Rent shall be renegotiated at end of lease term.

    • Ability to participate in Art Center public programs and exhibitions at a discounted rate.

    • Artist profile listing on website and links to social media/website

    • Use of shared utility sink in hallways.

    • Free public WiFi

    • Monitored Security System

    • Ability to use the name "The Montgomery Art Center" in self- promotions.

  • Studio Artists may sell work from their studios and the Art Center does not take a commission from any sales. Studio Artists may exhibit in gallery spaces upstairs and are responsible for submitting their own taxes.

Other studio space needs may be available.

Of note in the Operating Rules and Procedures, leaseholders are required to:

    • Use the studio as a working space to produce work or use it as a gallery space.

    • Engage the public, staff, and other artists, with courtesy and respect.

    • Maintain minimum noise only consistent with the working process.

    • Work with the Art Center regarding any hazardous activities or material.

    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

    • Monitor children that artists bring to the studio.

    • Not use the public space as an extension of their studio.

    • No Illegal drugs on premises.

    • No misuse of alcohol on premises.
